Hello! We are AlchemicalTexts, a site devoted to presenting the truth about alchemy: namely, alchemy is real. The world has been split for centuries between non-practitioners and practitioners. That split became even more realized when, in the late 1700s, alchemists discovered a way to travel between alternate realities. Since then, a secret conglomerate of alchemists created a new government that rules from one of those alternate realities, giving practitioners dual citizenship wherever they live.
This second government, the Alium Society of Alchemists (ASA), dictates laws regarding use of alchemy, censorship of speech relating to alchemy, and the amount of alchemical education allowed to children. The ASA is headed by the magister, Magister Magnus Melior, who comes from a long line of capable alchemists. The Melior family has long supported censorship of alchemical speech and, therefore, long supported silencing anyone who might reveal the truth of alchemy to non-practitioners. This is evidenced by the Silence Act.
We at AlchemicalTexts are a direct response to this censorship. We aim to inform the uninformed and turn non-practitioners into practitioners. It is unfair and unethical for a government to silence its people, especially when its people can help change the world for the better. We at AlchemicalTexts believe that the censorship of alchemical speech harms non-practitioners by not allowing them to experience the benefits of alchemy and harms practitioners by keeping potentially talented alchemists from even learning of the art.
The Silence Act (officially known as ASA Proliferation Act 6771) increased the already strict regulations regarding public alchemical speech. The act entailed a complete barring of any alchemical texts published by Terran publishers after 2005 and prevented the sharing of alchemy-related items by individuals from public platforms. The laws were intentionally left vague to instill a fear of publishing alchemical texts anywhere outside of Alium.
Of course, this vagueness left several loopholes that have allowed people like us to share as we are an organization, not an individual. Magister Melior has since lobbied to revamp these laws in ASA Proliferation Act 6772, which aims to completely silence any alchemical speech from the internet or publication at threat of 40 years imprisonment.
Of course, this level of censorship is unprecedented and dangerous. It implies that the ASA will have direct access to citizen's technology and a constant monitor of all internet usage by these devices. It also implies a direct and immediate stop to alchemical information being spread to non-practitioners or even to other practitioners. This silence would cause an even larger divide between practitioners and non-practitioners, forcing two different cultures to live completely without the other and the other's technological, social, and other advancements.
While several senators seem to support Magister Melior's agenda, there are others that are as wary as we are. Our goal is to share information with non-practitioners and force the Silence Act to fail. If we can show the ASA government that we do not want to be silenced, they will be forced to comply and repeal the act, allowing practitioners and non-practitioners to speak openly and honestly.
